DIY Superhero Shoes! Comic Book Craft!

DIY Superhero Shoes!

DIY Superhero Shoes!

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you know that I am a HUGE Superhero fan! From my Wall of Awesome in my office, to my collection of T-shirts, they are just a part of my life! With all of my decor and shirts, I decided that I wanted to give a plain pair of shoes and give them a Superhero flair!

DIY Superhero shoes

You can use almost anything to make them, and any character you love. I used napkins to create these shoes, but you can use things like wrapping paper or even images printed off the Internet. Or, if you can stomach the thought of it, you can even use actual comic books. I could not bring myself to cut up any of my comic books, so this was the next best option.

DIY Superhero shoes

I already have a few other characters that I have in mind for my next pair. With canvas shoes only around $5 a pair, I can fill my closet up with Super Hero awesomeness! Plus, I have yet to come across a cool pair of Comic book inspired shoes, so why not just make my own!

Learn how I made them in the video below!

What character would you turn into a cool pair of Superhero Shoes?

Easy Finger Knit Scarf! DIY Infinity Scarf!

November 3, 2014 by Jamie Satterwaite 6 Comments

Want to learn how to knit but can't seem to get it right? Learn how to finger knit! It only takes some yarn and your good ol' fingers to finger knit a scarf! Perfect for the cold months and make a great homemade gift for the holidays!

Easy Finger Knit Scarf!

Ummm…. What the heck? I swear the temperature dropped 20 degrees here overnight! I guess there is no denying that winter is coming, so it is time to pull out those parkas and get warm and snug. I have mentioned in the past that learning to knitting is on my bucket list. Although I have not mastered the knitting needles…. yet. I have learned a few tricks on how to knit without actually knowing how to knit. A few months ago I learned how to loom knit, and have been obsessed ever since. This time, I wanted to do something that did not require any special tools, and so I started my finger knitting adventure.

Want to learn how to knit but can't seem to get it right? Learn how to finger knit! It only takes some yarn and your good ol' fingers to finger knit a scarf! Perfect for the cold months and make a great homemade gift for the holidays!

Needless to say, ANYONE can finger knit a scarf! It took me about 15 minutes from start to finish and I love how it turned out. You can even make it extra long and turn it into an infinity scarf. I still have a ton of yarn left and can probably make at least 5 more of these scarves to give away as gifts this holiday season. Talk about a bang for your buck! $10 in yarn and I can make 5-6 super cute scarves!

Do you have a craft that you are determined to master?

No Sew Tshirt Upcycle!

No Sew Tshirt Upcycle!

Last week I received my Loot Crate and was super excited about all of the awesome things that came in it, to include this Death by Kitten Tshirt. I loved the shirt, but it was just a tad bit to big for me, and so I knew if I did not do something with it, I would never ware it. So I grabbed my handy dandy scissors and got to work on making it something I would not only wear, but absolutely LOVE! Plus, this a no sew tshirt upcycle, so it was super easy to do!

Fashion Friday! Back To School Clothes!

July 25, 2014 by Jamie Satterwaite 2 Comments

Back To School Clothes!  Back To School Clothes!

You know what is the best part of the internet? The fact that I can drool over yummy desserts without gaining a pound and that I can create fun outfits without having to leave the house or spend a dime! Plus, I have a pretty awesome virtual closet thanks to Pinterest! Since I usually have two small children when I am out an about, clothes shopping can be kind of a nightmare, so that is why I like to virtual shop before ever leaving the house. I can come up with what look I am wanting and than head out to the store, or even better…. Just have it all shipped directly to my front door!

Since school is starting in many places around the country, I figured this week would be a good week to look for some back to school clothes….FOR ME! Yes, I go to school online, but that does not mean I will not spend countless hours at The Girls school for meetings and what not this year. It is still super hot here, so I wanted something that was cool and comfortable, but gave the option to cover up a bit more if I needed to.

I love this Doublju Womens Tank Cami Top with Racer Back, but than again, I am a tank top addict, but at just $4.99, it is okay! Plus, it comes in a ton of different colors! Woo Hoo!

You know I am a sucker for a Maxi Skirt, and I am loving chevrons, so this AB Studio Print Maxi Skirt caught my eye right away! It is currently on sale for just $24.00!

I have been on the lookout for a new light weight jacket, and I am kinda loving the wrinkle look that this Jennifer Lopez Crinkled Denim Jacket has to it. And again, another awesome sale! Marked down to just $37!

I am not ready to part ways with my sandals, and would probably wear them year round if it didn’t get so darn cold. These XOXO Donna Sandals maybe something I would wear until I could no longer take the cold! They are 50% off right now and are only $24.50!

Who doesn’t love a good fashionable tote bag? This Everyday Faux Leather Tote comes in black or cream is just $24.50!

I am loving the hammered silver look of the Daisy Fuentes Silver Tone Hammered Triangle Bib Necklace! It is on sale to for $15.80!

Is it back to school time in your neck of the woods? We still have another month until school starts here!

Easy DIY T-shirt Dress! Sew Simple I Can Do It!

Easy DIY T-shirt Dress! Sew Simple I Can Do It! Easy DIY T-shirt Dress! Sew Simple I Can Do It!

So, I have mentioned I am less than a novice at sewing. I am slllooowwwwllllyyyy learning how to make different things though. I think my fear is what has stopped me in the past from attempting things, and I have vowed to try something new when it comes to sewing at least once a week. This weeks project stemmed from a trip to the craft store. It only took one phrase from my daughter and I knew what I would be trying. She said “Mom, I really like that dress”. She was referring to one of the beautifully displayed dress in the fabric section.  If you know The Girl, she is pretty much anti dress. So, if she showed in interest in a dress, than gosh darn it, I was going to make it!

Mom, what do I do with my hands?

Mom, what do I do with my hands?

Items Needed:

For this project I used 1yd of fabric, if you are making an adult size you may need up to 2yds.

Coordinating thread

Extra wide double fold bias tape (I just discovered this stuff and I am in love with it!)

Sewing Machine

Scissors

Large Piece of paper (I used old wrapping paper)

Pencil or marker

T-shirt that fits

Iron

Directions:

I started off with taking one of The Girls T-shirts to use as a pattern. I folded it in half and placed the folded edge to my wrapping paper. I traced around the t-shirt, adding about 1 inch to allow for seam allowance. I would rather it be a little to big, than small since I could always make alterations to fit better later.

Easy DIY T-shirt Dress! Sew Simple I Can Do It! I than took a measurement by having the The Girl put the shirt on and measuring how long I wanted the dress to be. I added 1 inch to the length again for seam allowance and than drew it onto the pattern.

I made adjustments to the way the dress would lay once everything was drawn out.

I made adjustments to the way the dress would lay once everything was drawn out.

Next, I cut out the pattern and sat it aside. Since my fabric I was using was pretty wide, I folded each end to meet in the center so I could cut both sides of the dress with out a lot of waste. Place the flat edge of the pattern to the folded edge of the fabric and pin and cut. You will need to do this twice so you have a front and back.

Easy DIY T-shirt Dress! Sew Simple I Can Do It! Once the easy part was over I went to pinning. I decided I did not want to use bias tape on the bottom hem, so I folded the bottom edges over twice and ironed and pinned into place.

Easy DIY T-shirt Dress! Sew Simple I Can Do It! For the sleeves and neck line I cut my bias tape to length and pinned those into place.

Easy DIY T-shirt Dress! Sew Simple I Can Do It! After everything was pinned into place, I got to sewing. For each side I sewed the neckline, sleeves and bottom hem. After all of those were sewn into place, I put both sides together so that the pretty sides were facing in towards each other.

I started on one side at the bottom hem and sewed around until I reached the sleeve, I readjusted the the dress to skip sewing over the sleeve and sewed the shoulder, and did this until I reached the other sides bottom hem. Just be sure to avoid sewing over the neckline and sleeves.

After all of the sewing was done, I trimmed all of the excess thread and turned it right side out. For me being a less than novice sewer, this project took me roughly 30 minute to complete! The Girl was actually super excited about it, which made doing this DIY T-Shirt Dress that much more worth the effort!

Fashion Friday! Summer Beach Wear

Fashion Friday! Summer Beach Wear

Fashion Friday! Summer Beach Wear

I know, I am late, it is Saturday. But if you have been popping in this week you may have noticed some strange things goings on. But, that will be a post all its own because it was just that bad! So, we will say that this post is just fashionably late. =)

You know what is the best part of the internet? The fact that I can drool over yummy dessertswithout gaining a pound and that I can create fun outfits without having to leave the house or spend a dime!

This week is all about the beach. Our family likes to take mini trips to the beach during the summer which usually include having to wear our bathing suits there, so this super cute Chevron Maxi Dress is perfect for that! I can wear it under my suit and than when it is time to go I can strategically remove my wet suit while wearing it. There is nothing worse than a 2 hour car ride while wearing a wet bathing suit. I kept the accessories to a minimum because well, it is the beach and things go missing in the sand abyss.

SUNNYCI Womens Casual Chevron Print Sleeveless maxi dress with belt – $11.50 + Shipping! If coral is not your color it does come in black and green as well.

I believe that a girl can never have to many flip flops, and these Metal- Plated Flip-Flop Sandals will soon be mine! For only $7.50 I can get them all 3 colors that are available!

It is nice to have a nice big bag for the beach to carry things like sunscreen, but that does not mean it has to be ugly. This super cute Relic Hadley E/W Tote will do the job in a stylish way. Right now it is 50% off making it only $32.99!

It is the beach, so of course sunglasses are a necessity! These XOXO Oversized Round Sunglasses are on sale right now for $12!

Last, but not least.. This adorable Glitzy Rocks Sterling Silver Marcasite Starfish Necklace finishes off the outfit. It is also on sale right now for $14.44!

Do you love the beach?

What girl doesn’t love shinny things? I was instantly drawn to these gorgeous GUESS Adinna shoes from 6pm.com. Right now they are $34 marked down from $99!!!!

Fashion Friday! What to wear this 4th of July?

June 27, 2014 by Jamie Satterwaite 1 Comment

Fashion Friday! What to wear this 4th of July?

Fashion Friday! What to wear this 4th of July?

Can you believe that June is almost over? My neighbor was lighting off fireworks last night when it hit me that 4th of July is right around the corner! We generally prefer to keep it low key on the 4th and celebrate with our family and neighbors, but that does not mean I do not like to at least look presentable. I love fashion, but I probably have more super hero shirts than my four year old son has. So, I have been slowly adding pieces to my closet that have versatility. While I was playing around on Polyvore, I decided to come up with what I would be wearing this 4th of July.

The Champion Striped Racer Back Tank Top was the first thing to catch my eye. I love tank tops, and this one is reasonably priced at just $18!

Destroyed Medium Washed Skinny Machine Jeans were another favorite I came across. I am a sucker for jeans, and they are only priced at $34.99!

It is not summer without flip flops, and I am loving these SCOOP Patent Flip Flops. I may be on the hunt for a similar pair that cost a little less, these ones will set you back $50.

I have already ordered the awesome Kenneth Cole Reaction Poppins purse! It is currently on sale for $36.99!

Last, but not least, are these super cute Proud Starlet Earrings. They are super cute and only $6!

Do you have anything special planned for the 4th of July?
