DIY Car Organizer for Men!
Father’s Day is right around the corner! We are kind of strange in our house, we generally do not give gifts for things like Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. Instead we make something for the other that they can use, or take over the chores for the other for the day. We live on a small farm, so having a day that is chore free is a major gift…lol This year I wanted to do something special for Hubby, and I knew just what to do.
My hubby works hard everyday, from taking care of our family and things around the house, to working very long hours at work. Being a military family is not easy, but we take advantage of the little time we get to spend together. Just like most men, my Hubby loves his truck, I don’t blame him though, we have had a lot of great memories thanks to that truck. One thing that my Hubby likes to do when he gets a lunch break during the summer is to head to one of the lakes on post and do a little fishing. It helps him to clear his mind and just get away from work. So, for Father’s Day I decided to make him a DIY Car Organizer for Men. It holds his essentials like a travel fishing pole, bug spray, wet wipes, a little folding chair and some cleaning supplies for the truck.
I was inspired to make this DIY Car Organizer because although Hubby loves his truck, it can be a bit messy. The pockets on the back of the seats really do not hold much, so everything ends up on the floor. To make the organizer I decided to use one of the many old uniforms we have laying around. I did this for two reasons. One, they are old and not being used, so why not repurpose it. And two, the ACU top has a ton of pockets that I could use for extra storage. The sleeve pockets were perfect for hold things like a fishing license. If you don’t have a uniform, you can use any fabric or old shirt.
Items Needed:
- Storage box
- Shirt or fabric
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
I first cut the main portion of the back of the uniform out, making sure I had enough fabric to cover the box.
I then used the fabric to wrap the outside of the box like a present. Folding two opposite sides up and securing them with hot glue.
I then folded the other two sides up and secured those with hot glue. I used the seams of the uniform so that I could get a finished edge around the top.
Once the box was covered I cut out one of the pockets and secured it to the side of the box using more hot glue.
After I filled the box with the fishing essentials I felt that it needed a bit more to fill it up. So, I headed to my local Walmart to see what I could find.
I decided to grab one the Armor All Car Care Gift Packet 10-Piece Buckets. This would be the perfect gift just by itself.
- Father’s Day Buckets include following products:
- Armor All Orange Bucket with Lid
- Armor All Extreme Tire Shine
- Armor All Original Pump 10oz
- Armor All Ultra Shine Wash & Wax
- Armor All Cleaning Wipes
- Armor All Glass Wipes
- Armor All Quick Silver Wheel & Tire Cleaner
- Armor All Towel
- Armor All Pro Tips Booklet
- Sponge
I know that Hubby loves having the cleaning wipes in his truck, so I added those to his gift. Plus, with the $2 coupon at Walmart, I was able to get everything for a great price! The organizer is perfect because it keeps everything from rolling around the floor of the truck and keeps it nice and organized.
I love organization. 😀
What a creative way to use an old uniform! I know your husband will love having a way to keep his truck more organized, too. Thanks for sharing! #client
What an awesome project! I really liked it and will be sure to pass it down to my husband, a former Sergeant in the US Army! I’m not sure I have introduced myself or not, but my name is Niki, and I’m one of your fellow Merry Monday hosts, and wanted to let you know that I love your blog and hope to catch up on several of your other projects this week, too! I noticed you commented on my blog, and must not have known I was a host also. I’ll be pinning to pinterest. Have an awesome week!
I love that you make the gifts for Mother’s and Father’s day! I want to make a version for myself. My car desperately needs to be organized! 🙂 Sharing! And welcome to Merry Monday, fellow co-host!
Chelc,
Thank you!
This is such a nice, practical idea and I love how you personalized the basket with an old uniform. I’ll have to dig around our house and see if I can find an old Army uniform of my husband’s, so thanks for the inspiration! I’m excited you’re joining us as a Merry Monday host too! 🙂
