How to Get Your Mornings Started Right!
The school season is in full swing around here, this year is a little different than other school years though. This year I have a middle schooler and a kindergarten, which can be hectic to say the least. Even though they are in the same school district, their schedules could not be more different! So, mornings around here are little crazy… ok, a lot crazy. And, of course, Murphy’s Law is always in effect in the mornings. Shoes go missing, lunches are forgotten, it NEVER fails!
To keep the kids going and moving, we decided to give a checklist a try and so far it has worked like a dream! The kids have a nice reminder of what needs to be done in the morning. You may think that eating breakfast or brushing your teeth is obvious, but you would not be surprised how quickly a 5 year old will forget things. To make things a little bit easier as well, we opted to try some new breakfast meals too. I have always been a fan of Jimmy Dean products, and it turns out my kids love the Jimmy Dean Sausage, Egg & Cheese Croissant Sandwiches. They keep them filled and fueled through the morning, which makes my mornings easier.
You can grab this fun and simple checklist HERE. Place it in a frame and you can use a dry erase marker for the kids to mark off the list as they go! Simple, fun and easy!
With two kids on different schedules the crazy does not end in the morning, after school can be just as crazy. Between clubs and sports and homework, it never seems to end, so after school snacks are essential to keep the kids (and me) going. I have always struggled with after school snacks because I do not want my kids to be hungry, but I do not want them to eat so much that they don’t want dinner. To solve that problem we picked up some snacks that will hold them over until homework is done and dinner is ready. Plus, they like having a snack to eat while doing homework, it keeps them focused.
The State Fair Corn Dogs do just that, they are packed with protein, but will not fill up the kiddos so that they don’t want to eat dinner. Plus, the honey-sweetened cornbread batter is super yummy!
I also love that I can head to my local Walmart and grab some of my favorite frozen breakfasts and snacks right in the freezer aisle, without having to run around the store (because no one has time for that).
This is such a great idea, and it’s so simple! I think I’ll have to put something like this in place once my son gets a little older….and we really start having hectic mornings! Thanks for the free checklist too!
