Tips for a Quick Cleaning
We live in the country, which has its advantages and disadvantages. One great thing is that I generally have advanced notice if someone is coming over, which is good because of the disadvantage of living in the country. No matter how hard I try, something is ALWAYS being tracked in. Combine the country living with a Husband in the Army, and you just get one big mess. When he comes home from a ruck march or running, even though he tries his best to clean his shoes, something always sneaks in. Taking shoes off outside does not really help because we live in the Sandhills, so it is always lurking, even in the shoes.
But, sometimes I do get short notice of someone coming over for one reason or another, so I have learned a few tricks to give the appearance that I do have my act together when it comes to cleaning department. I like to start from the top and work my way down, and I always use cleaning products with multiple uses. I have fallen in love with the Pledge Multi Surface for many reasons. One, I can use it to spot clean my laminate floors and wipe down all of my surfaces easily. Plus, they now have Glade scents, so not only am I cleaning, I am making my home smell clean and not in that over baring way, just a nice light scent. Lets face it, even if a home is clean, it doesn’t feel clean unless it smells clean.
So, here are a few tips and tricks I have for quick cleaning your home!
1. Storage, Storage, Storage! Even with small spaces, having somewhere you can stash that pile of mail or stuff that snuggle blanket laying on the couch is essential. When shopping look for multi purpose items, for example, use an oversize ottoman with storage instead of a coffee table. I also keep a few small decretive boxes on shelves to help hid the clutter.
2. As I mentioned before, a multi purpose cleaner is your best friend when quick cleaning. I start on my counters and tables with the Pledge Multi Surface and work my way to the floor. If you have a hard surface floor just give it a quick sweep and spot clean. Unlike other cleaners Pledge is pH- balanced. This means its worry-free formula cleans nearly any surface without clouding up or stripping away the finish. So everything looks clean, not dull.
3. If you are in a real pinch for time, break up the tasks to other family members. Usually I take the kitchen and the kids or Hubby take on the living room or bathroom. There is no need to clean every single room, just the ones that you know your guests may see.
4. Lastly, remember it does not have to be perfect. WE ALL HAVE MESSES! If a few toys are laying around or this a dish in the sink, don’t panic. As I see it, as long as it looks clean, id dust free and smells clean… it is clean enough for last minute guests.
