DIY Lighthouse Lawn Ornament
I love Lighthouses! Living in North Carolina for so many years, they have become something that I have come to just adore. So, when The Girl said she had a project that she needed to do for school about lighthouses, I was more excited than she was! The project had to include an art project, so off to the craft store we went. We came up with some ideas, but nothing really interested The Girl, she wanted that “wow” factor. When it comes to school projects, I like to come up with ideas that will be easy for the kiddos to do, and have sustainability. I like the idea of having those projects displayed proudly around the home. This project fits the bill! So, the following day I went to the lawn and garden store to see if there was anything that we could use. I across a few terracotta pots stacked up on each other, and they looked just like the shape of a lighthouse! SCORE! I bought 5 different sizes, but ended up only using 4 of them. The total cost was under $10 for them all, which is a win in my book!
Items Needed:
4-5 terracotta pots in various sizes that will stack easily
Black, White and Red Paint
Hot Glue Gun
Directions:
I got The Girl started on painting the bases of each pot white, this took 3 coats to get a good coverage. After the white coat was completely dry (we let it dry overnight). Then, we painted the rims of each pot black, this only took 2 coats.
After everything was dry, I put a bead of hot glue inside the lip of each pot and stacked them on top of each other. The girl got crafty and painted on a window on the top tier and a bright red door on the bottom tier to finish it off.
We both love how it turned out, and not only did The Girl get her school project done, I got a beautiful Lighthouse Lawn Ornament.
